Topic:  THE HIGHEST SERVICE WITH THE GREATEST BENEFIT

1 Chronicles 28:1-3

As we come to the last two chapters of First Chronicles you will see what the Lord is saying, and as we approach this for our New Year Covenant Service, we are making a covenant/agreement with the Lord that this year, all the promises of God will be yes and amen in our lives, families and work, and all He has covenanted He will do and accomplish in Jesus name.  To have a new covenant with the Lord, some definite steps must be taken which include:

  1. New Creature – No covenant with the old sinful self, but we must be washed and cleansed in the Blood of the Lamb, Jesus.
  2. New Commandment – In the new covenant we walk by the new commandment to love God with all our heart, soul and mind, to love our neighbours as ourselves and the brethren as He has loved us.
  3. New Confession in your mouth. No more old language of unbelief, doubt, complaint and murmuring, but this year new confession – I will succeed, achieve and do well, and the promises of God are yes and amen in your life in Jesus Name.
  4. New Commission that will occupy your time and very service, to preach the gospel to every creature.
  5. New Consecration – You will rise up and run the race before you; work and build to make a new achievement this year; not be sluggish, slack nor dragging your feet. What you should but were not doing before, you will begin to do.
  6. New Contribution – take your offering to the house of the Lord as you come before the Lord, don’t come empty.
  7. New Compensation – God will answer all your prayers this year. Even the things you don’t ask and He knows you need, He will give you. I see you happier, healthier, holier and new committed congregation this year. Blessings will follow and run after you.

“But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood” (1 Chronicles 28:3). David was a good example in so many ways in the Bible. He wanted to build a befitting, great, glorious and magnificent temple for the Lord but God said no. For some people, that is where they will stop, but not David. He did not argued nor question God, and this year you will not argue with nor question God. David rather made preparation for everything that would be needed to build that temple. Now with the temple built, how do we serve in that temple, what do we give to the Lord so that this year will be a new covenant year for us? You will give a higher, greater and more profitable service this year, and then the greatest of benefits will come unto you in Jesus Name.

3 points:

Point 1. THE COMPELLING COMPREHENSION OF OUR TASK OUTSIDE THE TEMPLE

1 Chronicles 29:29-30; Luke 10:27-37; 1 Kings 4:29-34; Acts 10:33,44-45; Proverbs 1:1,20; Luke 13:26; 2 Chronicles 20:20-22; Acts 16:25,26; Jonah 3:1-10; Acts 8:4-8; Proverbs 24:11,12; James 5:19-20

As we come to the end of building of Solomon’s temple, we conclude he gave us a great and magnificent temple. What is the compelling comprehension of our task, things we are supposed to do for the Lord; what great duty is the Lord committing into our hands? “Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, ….. With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries” (1 Chronicles 29:29-30). The great things David did, surprisingly, he did outside the temple. He defeated Goliath, raised up a great army to fight the battles of the Lord, and wrote the Psalms for the whole world – outside the temple. God has called us to service in the temple and outside the temple. At the time of Jesus Christ, all the Priests, Pharisees and Scribes concentrated all their service in the temple. The souls Christ died for are outside the temple – sinners, the poor, sick, widows, fatherless, those with suicidal thoughts dying and going to hell – and we have a service to them. “And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. (Luke 10:27) Our neighbours are outside the temple, these are the people we are to reach out to as Jesus taught in the parable of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). The Lord wants us to minister to those left half dead by the world, Satan and enemies of their soul; to serve with a compelling, convicting and driving comprehension of our service outside the temple. What is your attitude after you have served effectively, spiritually, profitable and courageously in the temple? The service we have in the temple is to prepare us for our service outside the temple. Take care of people in your community and neighbourhood, give them freely the water of life, bread of life and the spiritual treatment that they need, so that they do not die in their sins (Luke 10:31-37). Minister to the people that are outside and bring them to the knowledge of the Lord.

Back to the Old Testament, “And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five” (1 Kings 4:32). This is what Solomon did outside the temple with his God-given wisdom. Majority of the proverbs in the Book of Proverbs were written by Solomon and they benefitted people outside the temple in all the nations. We need to go outside the sanctuary and share the wisdom of the word of God with people outside the temple; Peter did (Acts 10:33,44-45). There is a Cornelius in your neighbourhood, in your home, share the word of God with him outside the temple. “Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets” (Proverbs 1:1,20). God gave wisdom to Solomon, but he did not confine himself to the temple, and so on the streets and highways, we share the word of God with the people we come in contact with. Our Lord Jesus Christ taught in the streets; He spoke about salvation, eternal life and whatever will profit for all eternity (Luke 13:26).

In the wilderness king Jehoshaphat and his people worshipped the Lord with praises, and there he made a proclamation.  As you believe the Lord God and His prophets, you, your life, work and every project you embark on will be established and will prosper in every area of your life; you will not live from hand to mouth this year in Jesus Name (2 Chronicles 20:20,21).  We don’t limit our singing to the temple, there are old people’s homes, prisons, hospitals and people suffering on their sick beds, we can go and sing to them and make them happy; and your singing will heal the sick, raise the dead and bring miracles to them in Jesus Name. Paul and Silas sang in prison and great deliverance came. This will be a year of miracles, yokes shall be broken and perplexities taken away outside the temple (Acts 16:25). For both the singers as they sing, and us being ministered to, this year, doors hitherto shut will be opened to us, doors of opportunities, deliverance, freedom and victory in Jesus Name. God said to Jonah, “Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee” (Jonah 3:2). We are to preach in the city and on the streets. Not only the word we hear in the temple that we believe, but the word we hear in the HCF, as we talk with each other, we believe, and faith will work in your life, great things the Lord will do. Jonah did not wait for them in the temple and the word went from the street to the palace; so go to them outside the temple and take the word of repentance to them in Nineveh. Preach to them, let them hear and they will be saved in Jesus Name (Jonah 3:1-10). “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4). Miracles of deliverance will happen this year as you lay your hands on the sick, salvation and healing will take place in that city as you go to them in Jesus name (Acts 8:5-8). You need to have a new comprehension of the might of Christ and the Will of God to take the gospel to those outside the temple and as you do that the Lord will reward you IJN. Some of them are drawn unto death, with suicidal thoughts, go to them and rescue them outside the temple (Proverbs 24:11,12). Look for them, a backslider who had stopped coming to the temple, go to them where they are and reach out to them with the hand of love and mercy, and bring them in (James 5:19-20). May the Lord use you more inside and outside the temple.

Point 2. THE COMPLETE CONSECRATION OF OUR TREASURE

1 Chronicles 28:8-9; 29:5; Proverbs 3:5-20; Genesis 28:20-22; Malachi 3:10-12; Matthew 6:19-21; Mark 12:41-44; Luke 6:38; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2,15; 2 Corinthians 8:1-6; 9:6; 1 Chronicles 16:29

“Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the Lord, and in the audience of our God, KEEP and SEEK for all the commandments of the Lord your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever. And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thought; if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. (1 Chronicles 28:8-9)  “The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?” (1 Chronicles 29:5).

Serve the Lord with a perfect heart wherever you are. Who is willing to consecrate his time, treasure and talent to the Lord? Consecrate your all to the service of the Lord every day of your life and commit your treasures unto Him. “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil” (Proverbs 3:7). To depart from evil is our everyday duty. “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase” (Proverbs 3:9). When you give in the temple, you are honouring the Lord, and when you give in your neighbourhood, send clothes to the naked, help to the helpless, giving to the poor and needy, you are doing your service unto the Lord and the Lord will reward your generosity and giving. The Lord will be my God anywhere and everywhere, and every day of my life, and I will give unto the Lord, in and outside the temple.  So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee” (Genesis 28:21-22). Jacob was not in the place where they were arguing about the tenth to give unto the Lord. And the Lord will reward your consecration in Jesus Name. Bring your tithes, don’t forget them as you come into the temple to worship. It is out of what you give, the Lord will multiply unto you (Malachi 3:10-12). There is going to be an outpouring of blessing upon your life in Jesus Name. Don’t eat everything you have, reserve some part as treasures unto the Lord in heaven, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal” (Matthew 6:19).  When you give to the Lord, to the poor, needy, and supply the needs of other people, you are laying treasures in heaven. This year, you will give more than you gave last year. In the temple, you will give more of your treasure, talents, skills, time, money and all, and outside the temple you will give to the needy as well. The Lord Jesus commended the widow who gave her all to the Lord, not calculating what to give, while the rich cast in much (Mark 12:41-44). This year the Lord will make you rich as you enrich the kingdom, and will reward you in Jesus Name. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38). Give unto the Lord every time you come into the temple of the Lord, don’t come empty handed. This is your new contribution, commitment and consecration for the new year. When we contribute in the house of God, we are contributing to the saints, because we are collecting of all the things that will be used for the ministering to the saints (1 Corinthians 16:1-2,15). We are to teach our children on how to give unto the Lord, to the poor and indigent students as well. Addict yourselves to the ministry of the saints. They were poor, and yet they gave beyond their power (2 Corinthians 8:1-6). “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully” (2 Corinthians 9:6). You will give abundantly unto the Lord in every meeting days and outside the temple in your neighbourhood in Jesus Name. Anytime you are giving unto the Lord, you want to give what is due and appropriate to what the Lord has done for you, (1 Chronicles 16:29)

Point 3. OUR COURAGEOUS COMMITMENT WITHOUT CORRUPTING/CONTAMINATING HIS HOLY TEMPLE

1 Chronicles 28:9,20; 1 Corinthians 3:9,16,17; 6:19,20; 2 Corinthians 6:16-18; Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Kings 11:4-10; Nehemiah 13:26; Jude 20-21,24-25

“And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off forever” (1 Chronicles 28:9). What a true preacher David was! And he told the truth as in the word of God. If you are going to do what the Lord has called you to do inside and outside the temple, you will be strong and of a good courage. You will finished what the Lord has called you to do in Jesus Name. As you are taking care of the sanctuary, you take care to keep your body, which is the temple of God holy, cleansed and righteous before the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:9,16,17; 6:19,20). It is more important that you take care of your body as holy temple of the Lord. Solomon forgot what his father had told him. He took time to build the physical temple, but he did not take time to build his own spiritual life, soul and family. This is what the Lord is telling us, yes, we serve in the temple, but we should not forget our own spiritual life, the temple of the Lord; let there be holiness, and righteousness unto the Lord. He built the temple, but ruined and defiled his own holy temple and soul, and went after strange women and idols. He built the temple but lost the nation. You will not lose your life and soul. You will put first thing first in your life – the service of the Lord and beauty of holiness in your own temple, and serve the Lord with a perfect heart.  “Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin” (Nehemiah 13:26). Nobody will cause me to sin. Women, men, money, business, the flesh, the world and the devil will not cause you to sin, the Lord will keep you and you will serve the Lord this year with a new commission, commandment, confession and devotion. The most important thing is to serve the Lord with a perfect heart. Nobody take heaven away from you. Saved and sanctified, the Lord will keep you steadfast till the very end in Jesus Name. “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 1:20). It is good to build the temple, but you build your own selves, life and eternal destiny. “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 1:24). You will not fall, our church, leaders, members, your wife, your husband, your children, parents in the Lord will not fall in Jesus Name. The Lord will keep you this year as you serve in and outside the temple, and do appropriate things to keep your temple, your life holy, righteous and pure before the Lord. You will give more than ever before and the compensation of the Lord will come to your life in Jesus Name. This year, will be a new year for you.
